This week, Maayan gets a backstage interview with international violin virtuoso David Garrett–a musician who has garnered both critical accolades and a fervent fanbase with his classical and pop-crossover music. Maayan and Lauren discuss David’s surprising shyness and depth, and their discussion eventually veers away from unbiased reporting towards starry-eyed gushing.Β Also, does a defective ceramic pot spell doom for Maayan’s marriage? And why you should sometimes get that treat at the grocery store you normally avoid.

How do you spend your few quiet minutes of your life and sometimes what you dream of?
Do you mean for David Garrett?
This guy is so smart!!! I love the way he thinks!! Great interview girls!!! I’ m from Argentina too, like this lucky girl who flew from my country just to meet David!!! I wish I could!!! Thanks for your kindness girls!! You guys are so funny!!
Hi Fernanda! He is super smart. I was just thinking about it in the shower. I tried to throw in some light and fluffy questions but he just replied simply and deeply. It was charming. Hopefully one day you can meet him too! I hope so for you. Thank you so much for your words Fernanda!! I hope you keep listening and we can keep you company as you clean your house, drive to work, etc π –Maayan
Thanks!!! I wish I could, but unfortunately I cannot hear you from Argentina.!! , or Can I? How??? I’d loved to!!!
You can! (I think/hope so). You can subscribe to our newsletter here and we’ll keep you informed on all our shows and also when we release the video!
Your pizza sounds delicious! I haven’t had home made pizza since the 1980’s when my parents made it. I’d love to hear what else you put on it. Spices? What kind of toppings? I love veggies and mushrooms on my pizza. π Great interview with David Garrett. Looking forward to the video. π
Hi Cara! Thanks so much! Here’s what else I put on it – and it varies: truffle oil, oregano, salt (salt fiend); mushrooms i would put on top of ANYTHING. Thank you so much for listening to the interview! And yes, the video! He’s charming, you shall see π All the best to you. If you do make the pizza, I would love to hear about it. The world needs to know just how EASY it is. – Maayan
Poor David, I am sorry You had to suffer through that ” interview” . There has to be a filter to who should be allowed to call themselves a journalist and be granted a press pass and access to “interview” and waist one’s time. Aside from these women’s pretentious voices and forced enthusiasm, they didn’t even bother to do their homework and learn about the subject of their “interview”. One of them didn’t even know what Stradivarius is, not to mention how she insulted you saying that your look is like the cover of a trashy novel. I couldn’t stand listening to that. I am sorry, but this “interview” made me want to throw up.
Hi Nanya,
Thankfully, we are not journalists. I’m so sorry you didn’t enjoy the David Garrett episode. Some other fans like you have expressed similar feelings…I totally get it. We’ll be putting up corrections on this post because you guys raise a good point. Here’s some inside info for you: I had no idea what a Stradivarius was and my co-host Lauren said, are you sure you don’t want me to tell you before the interview and I said, NOPE! I want that moment to be real. You see the concept of Gossipist isn’t journalism but friendship. We talk with each other the way only friends could and listeners get to be a fly on the wall, listening in to very intimate conversation and…ignorance from time to time. That doesn’t take away from how you feel and I’m truly sorry you didn’t enjoy it. I understand that with your love, respect, and admiration for David Garrett, it might have felt insulting and disappointing to you. Needless to say, that could not have been further from our intention. We’ll be releasing the video soon and perhaps having the visual of it might be less distasteful to you…in any case, Nanya, thank you for listening. Happy to chat more if you want.
David did not drop the Strad that the German President loaned him. He fell after a show in the UK, and unfortunately the violin broke. It was a violin he had paid for. He is an amazing and a wonderful violinist with very down to earth personality.
Hi Christina,
Thanks so much for the correction. We’ll be posting corrections right here on this post. Apologies for the mistakes – other fans such as yourself are not too pleased and I totally get why. He has indeed a beautiful personality. Thank you for listening. Stay tuned for the video of the interview and a small behind-the-scenes show…
Forgot to add that it was a Guadanini that got broken. It has been restored since.
Pooor David….what a crap ass interviewer. She asked stupid questions about his looksvthat embarrassed for him. I cringed for him while she was focusing on that. Interviewer sucks!!!!!!!!!
Oh man Alice – I’m so sorry you felt that way. I thought he was adorably embarrassed him and I think we had a pretty nice connection actually! What questions would you have asked? I’m really curious.
Hi! Can you help me? I’m trying to translate this interview, but can’t make out your words on 9:50. I would appreciate your help.Thx.
I am really sorry….. on 18:13.
Davd: “I’ll surprise myself and hopefully other people who are in the audience will take that moment together with me”
Maayan: “And will you know it?”
π Enjoy!
Well, well, well… girls, I’m a big fan of DG too., and I enjoyed the interview!! To say it directly… let me express my feelings: What a hell were these girls suppossed to ask? I really liked what she did!! She was adorable, and so did David! I don’t know him personally ( Yeah, I wish! ), but as far as I can see, he seems to be a very nice person. I do not consider that this interview sucked!! On the contrary… it reflected there are people who doesn’t need to know everything ( why should we?? Come on!!! ) You were friendly and very nice!! And what I loved most was that it was obvious that you both were having a great time!!
I felt as if I was there with you guys! Thank you!!
This, I think, is essential in programms like yours, because not every body has the chance to meet people like him,. Let’s be honest !! Most of us are not a virtuoso violinist; Probably, we would have made the same questions. What are some fans thinking about? I hate arrogance! Loved, liked very much your work! Congrats and keep doing it!!
Ferchu! Thank you so much. So funny – damn right! What were we supposed to ask!? π Thank you so much for your compliments and kind words – your feeling like you were right there with us is what we LIVE for. Hope you keep listening!
I just want to share my thoughts about your David Garrett interview– And I only say this to be helpful and maybe advise you with future interviews. You stated that “Thankfully, we are not journalists” and that “the concept of Gossipist isnβt journalism but friendship”. Okay, so my question to you is; how on earth did you get this interview with DG, who only seems interested in talking and giving his time to journalists who have the qualifications to conduct interviews? And, even though David seems friendly enough to talk to, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he wants to be your friend. To be honest, I really felt that some of the things that you were saying and asking him were a little embarrassing and insulting to his intelligence, and that he was just going along trying to maintain his composure. My advice (you can take it, or leave it) is be more informed about the person or “friend” that you are presenting for public viewership.
Good thoughts, Genevieve, thank you for sharing. I think what we see is that so often times, interviews are a little stiff/formal and in, real life, we aren’t always informed about some things and there’s something really HUMAN and BEAUTIFUL (for me π ) about the process of learning. Perhaps you don’t like the style of our show which I totally understand. You raise very valid points and I imagine many people who know so much about him aren’t keen on that either. All the best to you π
